New skimmers need some time to break in.Generally a week or two.What skimmer do you have?

jeabo... it filled up in about 5 hrs with water is this normal? it was very dirty looking when i poored it out

sounds like your skimming very wet, can you adjust to make it skim dryer? what type of skimmer? tank size, bio load?
