skimmer on 30 gal

how necessary is a skimmer on a 30 gallon fowlr tank?
would it be more necessary if inverts were introduced to the tank?

right now, just a simple little bio bag filter, it was what i could afford to just get started. but i've got 30 pounds of live sand (swapping out sub-par substrate) on the way and 30 pounds live rock.

I used a emporer 400, Maxijet 400.. with 28 pounds livesand and 25 pounds liverock and my water is very clear still. I just changed the filters and wow lots of junk in them, so far its doing great job.

i just get confused, seeing all this conversation about pumps and fuges, sumps and skimmers...
and then i look at my tank and think... i dunno.. my water is completely clear.. fish are happy... water tests great.... do i really need all that stuff?
the only thing i was going to change, was to remove the bio bag and throw some LR rubble in the can.
