The tank I have is going through A cycle ,it is about half way through it. My skimmer has all of a sudden gone from producing about a cup of skimmer fluid every 2 days to filling up in about 2 hours.anyone know what is up?

What kind of skimmer? Can you back the pump down at all(ball valve)? Is the venturi clogged? If not sucking enough air, could be the problem.

what kind of skimmer how is it mounted etcetera, the more details we have the better chance we have of solving this problem.

the skimer is an ets reef devil it is in 6 inches of water in a 55 gallon sump the display tank is 150 gallons the pump for the skimmer is a catalina 1800 it was the pump that came with the skimmer . the ets reef devil is a down draft venturi type skimmer I believe the air is not clogged and the ball valve is dialed back all the way for the dryest possible foam .I did add the product cycle to the tank about 1 day before .

I would say it was probably the product as they often make skimmers go nuts but the results would hve been almost immediate unless there is a delayed reaction from the product.
If its an in sump skimmer I would just let it overflow back into the tank for a few days eventually it will slow down as whatever reaction is making it go nuts will back off, or hook up an overflow line to a LArge bucket untill it calms down so you dont have to dump it so often, the second would probably be the more effective route, Unfortunatly I am not very familiar with reefdevil skimmers so i cant help you on the mechanical aspect of that, maybe some one who has one can jump in and help you out a little on debugging and troubleshooting it.

I agree on all accounts... I wouldnt let it run back in the tank, just allow your skimmer to double as your automatic water changer this week. I would blame the added product as well. If your skimmer doesnt back off in about a week on its own, you should investigate a mechanical issue.
Man, did I just say the exact same thing? Oh well - hope its helpful...

I would say with almost certainty thet the "cycle product" is causing your problem. The etss skimmers are VERY sensitive to water chemical changes. They will stop skiming when your hands or certain foods are introduced into the tank. The oils off of these foods and such break down the foam column very quickly.
That being said, the reef devil is an awesome skimmer and should be fine in a day or so. If it is a new tank , I would just unplug the pump for a day or two and then restart it. You should be fine that way.
