Skimmer problem

We bought the Coralife Super Skimmer 125 (we have a 55gal) about a week ago but the bubble difuser is not diffusing the bubbles! The tank is being flooded with micro-bubbles and as a result the corals are all sending out this slime, I guess as a defense mechanism! What should we do? We were told to just let it run its course and let it break in, but what about all the bubbles? Will they harm the fish and corals? Also the Bubble Production Diffuser keeps overflowing, is this right? How do we prevent the micro bubbles?
PLEASE HELP :help:
We are starting to get frustrated with our Salt Water Tank

You need to try to adjust the amount of air going INTO the skimmer. Is there a little hose with a valve? If there is, slowly turn the valve 1/4 turn and let it run for a bit and then repeat until you find a good adjustment. There will be bubbles (alot) until it gets broken in 1-2 weeks maybe. The collection cup should not overflow either. Try to adjust the height of the cup and see if that helps.

It took me about a month to get my skimmer conditioned & set where I want it. Now it's not a problem. Be patient.

I would pitch that diffuser box and also raise up the pump / skimmer unit so the pump is between 1.5 and 2 inches from the surface. Make sure the outflow tube is not directly in contact with or under the water, and use a foam prefilter sleeve on the outflow tube. The filter sleeves are typically whats found on MAG drive pumps of size 3 to 7 or so.......costs about 2 or 3 bucks. The filter sleeve can be set so it is on the tube and extends into the water but make sure the tube end is not in the water. The filter sleeve is also a lot less obtrusive looking and is only about 2" in diameter as compared to a 3 x 5 x 4 inch box. DO NOT restrict the air intake line or the outflow tube vent line with a valve etc....
CDubbs:....typcially the lower the bubbles are set in the reaction chamber the drier the skim is and the drier a skim is usually the darker it is..........GIve the skimmer a few days of use. Once its adjusted its important ot keep the collection cup clean, just do not empty it. A fat deposit will build up on the inside of the cup and funnel, and it retards proper fractionation of protein, so efficiency is reduced.
