skimmer question?

I just got my skimmer up and running and don't know if it is working right. it is a tunze. I don't know if anybody has heard of that brand but it is supposibly realy good(about $220) it is all my fs ever uses. it is a texas based company that makes 2 kinds of skimmers, and 1 powerhead. they don't make them in mass quanitys, so therre arn,t very many out there. my question is fhen i first turned it on it foamed up all the way to the top of the colection cup tube and was overflowing. then the foam started going back down the tube. for about 2 days the foam was constant at about 1/3 up the tube. after reading the post about cleaning your skimmer yestesterday, I cleaned out the tube, and the section before the tube. when i turned it back on it foamed all the way to the top agaen then went back to its normal position(about1/3 up the tube) I cleaned it a second time, but nothing happened. what should I do?

Is it IN the tank,or hanging on the back?? If it's in the water,can you put it deeper into the water to raise the reaction level??STEVE

it is in the tank. I can't put it any lower, but there is a "fill to" line on it, and the water is a little above it. ¿¿¿¿There is a little air valve that might have something to do with it????

Like any skimmer,it may take some "playing around with" till you get it dialed in. I have heard of and seen these skimmers. Very nice.STEVE

There are two types of foam produced by skimmers - normal foam and protein foam. The normal foam consists of tiny bubbles of identical size, these burst quickly. Above the normal foam brown protein foam is produced which consists of larger bubbles of different sizes. It is the protein foam that you want to remove, not the normal foam. If the adsorbate in the collection cup is light coloured and thin then it contains too much water and you need to turn down the air flow.

a lot of good answers, but have you called the manufacturor,,,, how long have they been in business??? I wouldn't buy stuff that cost that much that did not have a quick replacement time...

Tunze have been around for decades and are the main producers of rotation skimmers which, by many are considered to be the best skimmers there are.

If it is the tunze that I know, they are excellent and you may well have removed the majority of protein in your tank.
