Skimmer Question

Last week I took my skimmer (AquaC Urchin Pro) out of the sump to clean it and it doesn't seem to be working the same way it did prior to the cleaning. I would regularly remove the collection cup of the skimmer to dump it an rinse it out and it was always dirty with the foul smell. Now, the skimmer still creates bubbles but the bubbles just run up the skimmer and totally fill the collection cup with water. Any suggestions or is this normal?

I think that its so clean now that the pump is working at its best. If there is a nob I would cut it back.

I don't...I guess adding a ball valve couldn't hurt. The skimmer was like this when I first set the tank up, but has been doing its job since then.

If it's producing bubbles and filling up the collection cup, the protein skimmer is working. Perhaps your water isn't really dirty at the moment? Don't worry, the skimmer will remove if something is there to be removed.

if you clean it completely, it might have to go through it's break-in period again. give it time. also, you can lower the o-ring on the cup, thus rasing the cup to increase the distance the bubbles have to travel.

A completely cleaned skimmer will act like a brand new one to your system . It will have to go through the break in period again .

I am having this issue with my aqua c remora pro - I was thinking the pump was too strong(Mag30 and was debating on purchasing a new pump(Mag2) but I will probably go try and find a ball valve at lowes to decrease the water flow for the time being. I am afaid to let it run all of the time because it fills up so fast.
