Skimmer question...

I've been seeing on some thread that some people don't use skimmers for their reeef tank because something about it taking out the "good" nutrients in the water as well as the bad stuff. But if i'm having mainly fish and live rock only tank, is it a good and beneficial idea to use a skimmer? Any help advice will be greatly appreciated! =)

The best filter you will buy for the tank...A must have IMO
The people with reef that do not like them may have stuf in the tank thay like extra food in the water?

Most people, including me, would recommend a skimmer on your tank. I run one on my reef tank, and I would say that a majority of reef tanks run them. Those that don't are the exception not the rule, although some have had great success running a reef tank without a skimmer. Like I said, I think that you will find that most people run a skimmer and would recommend one.

Yes skimmers are always good for your tank they remove alot of debri that filters don't. Trace elements in your water can be replaced by regular water changes or by adding essential elements in liquid form to your tank. But regular water changes are important. What type of filteration do you have? What size tank?

Newbie question!
I have a 125 gal that's going to be a reef tank eventually. I'm looking at getting the ecosystem filter/refuge with bioballs (don't yell!) and the mud and all that jazz. I've seen advertised that I don't need a skimmer with this set up. Am I being lied to? I was under the impression that a skimmer is not an option, no question about it.
I want to do my tank as close to right the first time as I can. I don't want to cut corners on my filter for sure, but who am I to argue if it says I can save $200 and don't need a skimmer. Yikes!
