Skimmer Time!!!

Ok so I have had my tank up and running for almost a year now and I am finally breaking down and buying a skimmer
I have no clue anything about them but I keep hearing people say I need to get one. I really really don't want to spend a lot of money on one. I saw in the superstore there is one on sale called the Red Sea Berlin Air 90 Skimmer in tank.
Is that a decent one for me? Can anyone recommend a relatively inexpensive one that still works pretty well? here are my specs:
45Gallon FOWLR
2 clownfish, 1 serpant star, 2 turbo snails, 10-12 hermits.

You have a small bioload and if everything seems healthy/thriving and you are comfortable with your maintenance program you probably do not need a skimmer. I have always used one and been through a couple inexpensive ones only eventually to spend the extra money on ones that seem to work.
Inexpensive...Coralife brand
Moderate: Remoras

Before you buy a skimmer for a 45g tank do you ever plan on upgrading to a bigger tank?
Your bioload is very small are you having an issue with algea?

No I don't plan on upgrading anytime soon. I have a little cyano problem, but it's under control right now. People just keep telling me I need to have one.

When it comes to skimmers... "One that works well" and "relatively inexpensive" are complete opposites.
I have to agree with Mc here. You most likely don't NEED one. They help, sure. But if you are current on your water changes, not over feeding and not over stocked, then your own bio filtration (pending you have enough) is sufficient.
There are no disadvantages to adding one, and I would always recommend one if your starting new, but your tank is over a year old, so your beneficial bacteria is already in place off setting what a skimmer does not pull out...
Anyway, that being said... The best deal you'll get on a good skimmer is trying to find a used one...
Euroreef, i-tech, asm (I think), remora... are all good. some cheaper than others.

I have had the best results using a remora on smaller tanks. I've tried everything and this is the best hob skimmer and the only one I would reccomend. It outperforms any small skimmer without a sump!
