I just set up my 125g about two days ago and I've had it running just filtering it because the sand that came with it came with alot of detritus in it so I'm trying to get that clean out as well as possible but anyhow my problem is I put some stress coat in the water to dechlorinize it and now my skimmer( a proclear aquatics 150) is just going nuts it's not pulling any gunk it's just foaming up crazy which I beleive is from the stress coat but what should i do?And also has anyone had this skimmer before is it any good?it came with my tank.

Yes, thats whats making it go crazy. I'd just let it go, it will calm down (as long as you don't add anymore stress coat). You could do a water change if it really bothered you, but I wouldn't. Do you have RO/DI or are you using tap water?

Um no, thats how the protien skimmer works it foams like crazy in a attempt to clean the sand out dont worry about it. Thats the entire purpos behind the system. The more it foams the better. Try raising the foam controller higher to make it foam a lot more so it pulls stuff out

Any time you add chemicals to the water, or even add freshwater for topoffs it affects your skimmer. Stress coat will cause a skimmer to go crazy. I've added anti-red to a tank to kill cyano and it caused the skimmer to instantly produce excess foam. This is normal.

Skimmers foam excessively when stress coat additives are added to the tank water. This is whats happening and most skimmer instructions warn that this will happen if you put those additives in the water.
The proclear/aqua-line skimmers are okay but grossly over rated. If you get a 150 model use it for a 75g or less and same goes for the 250 model (cut the rating in half if not more).

Did the anti-red work at killing the cyano?
I was wondering if that stuff really worked

It worked great!!! Just remove any carbon filtration, and do a water change in a few days after using it.

I'm running a Rio 2100 on my skimmer does that changes the skimmer performance? You must pardon me I have no skimmer experience.I'm a rebel....every system I've ever ran I've never used a skimmer and I always used tap water and they have been exceptionaly successful tanks(all smaller tanks). But with my system being this large I figured I'll conform to the saltwater standards before things get out of my control.

Most will run RO/DI (reverse osmosis) since many municipal water sources have more than just clorine, usually small amounts of unwanted metals and such. Your water might be the exception but most people have bad luck with tap. As to the Rio, If the skimmer power (GPH) ratings matches the skimmer then you'll alright.

Many dechlorinators cause "over activity" or excessive foaming in the skimmers...I use "Prime" since
it is one which does not do this. If they don't do this they will often say so somewhere in the directions...
