skimmer tunning

i have a nanowave 9 and it came with a little protien skimmer but its not realy skimming the cup just fills with water the cup does raise and lower a bit but there realy isnt that much adjustment how can i get it to work right

How long have you had your skimmer running? Most skimmers will pull out water for a few days at first while the system breaks in.
I had to look this one up. It is a venturi based skimmer. Raising the cup will reduce the amount of water it pulls from the tank. Also, make sure your air intake is clean and clear. Give it some time and it should dry up some.

the pump does have and adustment for the amount of water it lets in but when i turnned it down the foam never came close to the top of the cup should i pour the water out after it fills or just let it run

The foam doesn't always go to the top of the cup. It goes in cycles. Tune your skimmer until you start getting a dark green or brown liquid in the cup. If it's light green or watery then you are skimming too much and need to turn it down. It will take several days for the skimmer fill the cup so you won't notice results immediately. Turn it down and wait a few days to see what you're getting and then adjust accordingly.
