Yes, you can do it, some people will tell you that one will cancel out the other, but I'm not really sure if that will happen and don't actually understand why it would happen...IMO as long as there is stuff to be skimmed they should skim
That method is recommended by Anthony Calfo (author of "Book of Coral Propagation"). He goes into it a bit further by saying that it's beneficial to clean each skimmer on an alternating schedule from the other so that the system is skimmed most efficiently.
And different types of skimmers pull out slightly different proportions of organics. So using two completely different types of skimmers (maybe counter current and needlewheel?) could help to remove more from the water than a single larger skimmer or even two skimmers of the same type.

My skimmer selection actually goes hand in hand with the spirit of the question asked in the first post of this thread.
The 300g system I am picking up comes to me with a Turboflotor 1000 (needlewheel skimmer) and a DAS BX-2 (another needlewheel skimmer; a very nice design). I will likely use both of those, and also add a 4" diameter 6' tall PVC counter-current airstone driven skimmer. I also own an AquaC EV-180, but will probably sell it or hang on to it for future projects.
