Should a skimmer run all of the time or be timed. I have a 40 breader/w 3 fish some coral and lots of clean up crew

all the time. when it's started up you'll have to watch to make sure it's working properly, then check it at least once a day. definitely can't be done on a timer.

depending on what you have for fish and setup, I'd only feed daily and only supplement what you have to. I try and keep the amount of stuff going into my water to the bare minimum. I'm sure you'll get many different opinions on this though. But yes, keep that skimmer running all the time unless you have to clean it.

if you get really serious about keeping some expensive corals you'll spot feed them with something like a turkey baster. i do daily testing and sometimes multiple complete tests if something died or if the morning test didn't seem right.
my number one advice point would be to keep a notebook log of every single daily test parameter. god i wish someone would've told me that when i started.
