Okay right now I am in the process of setting up a 150g aquarium and am trying of figure out which skimmer I should get (aren't we all) I have narrowed it down to I think two right now. Please if you could just post your opinion on which skimmer you would recommend. Here is the list of the skimmers I am considering and the ones I have ruled out and why:
Ones Considering:
DAS EX2: I have heard that is built solidly and works great.
Octopus Recirc NW 150: I have read that it is a decent skimmer, and you can't beat the price. However it only has one recirc pump unlike the DAS EX2
Ones Ruled Out:
AquaEuro 250: I have read that the pumps are crap, also the footprint is too big for my sump
Euroreef: to pricey
BM: to pricey again (on a budget here)
Delta: same as above
Thanks in advance

have you looked at the mrc's or etss's???
Either one of the above is better than octopus, but I don't know anything about das skimmers...
the mrc...mr1 or mr2 would work wonders on a 150 or the etss reef devil deluxe

Greetings

I am new to the hobby (had a reef tank 12 years ago - re-learning everything as I build my 90G tank), so my advice is given with a 'newbie warning'.
I bought an ETSS Reef Devil Deluxe (and the ETSS sump) and it works great. My live rock was added two weeks ago and wasn't completely cured, and now that the skimmer is "broken in" it is pulling some completely disgusting stuff from the water
. I couldn't find anything "bad" about the Reef Devil Deluxe in the threads I followed before purchasing it and the people at ETSS are very nice. I decided after buying it that I would prefer to have it plumbed external and they were very helpful on the phone telling me what I would need to do to drill the sump, plumb the valve, etc. Good customer support - very much appreciated in this day and age...
P.S. The fabric softener bottle is temporary - sometimes low-tech isn't always bad!

yes I have looked at mrc's and etss. However I want to go with a needlewheel skimmer because they use less electricity and can work just as good as beckets.

I agree that they use less electricity
the etss is not a beckett, it is a downdraft

why wouldnt you go with the AE recirc 265. It appears to be the same exact design with two pumps and has a larger diameter body?
from a few reviews I have read the das's are not built that great, but the pumps are maybe a little better than the AE 265. But the ae 265 is $150 less money for a bigger skimmer.
I didn't mean to sound crappy about the electric usage, it is just that electric usage is not one of my concerns compared to the costs of everything else in this hobby. I kinda look at it like " if you are worried about the electric bill, don't start this hobby" so I usually get what works best instead of what costs less to run. Also the needlewheel pumps are just too finicky for my liking. I know their are tons of mods to do to them, but there is no way in hell I am paying $400 for a skimmer, and then I have to cut it up to make it work right. What I like about the etss and becketts is the set and forget it part. Just plug it in set it , and let it eat>

Super Skimmer 220. Got one on my 135g, and for $160 you can't beat it. And its in the GSM class if you ask me. Thing is great.
