small clam hitchhikers

Well my wife and kids went to Florida without me. They just got home yesterday, and my daughters picked shells for me. When I got home I started looking at what they just threw in my tank. Well I stumbled across a thumb- nail size clam. It was alive, and then it burrowed itself in the sand. I called my wife over to see this, and then she informed me that they put in 4 or five of these. Should I worry about them?

if they burrowed in the sand they are probably filter feeders, I wouldnt worry som much about the clams themselves as to any disease pathogen/parasite they may have brought in with them. a picture would help out alot.

I will try to get a pic of one. Fist I have to find them. Thanks for the info though. I kind of figured thats what the were. I hope they do not have any parasites or anything of that nature. Luckily I do not have any fish in this tank yet.

I had a little clam like that as well one time when I bought some LR. He lived for about 3 weeks or so. He was growing in size so I believe he was getting whatever food he needed to. In the end I think it was a hermit crab that ate him. There always seemed to be a hermit crab near it trying to open him up.
