I have small "featherduster" looking growths in my rocks. It started with just a few now they are everywhere. When I try to pluck them out they retreat into the rocks. I was told once what the are and had heard of a fish that like to eat them. Any suggestions on getting rid of them

I believe most folks may advise to leave them be since they are harmless filter feeders. Others may just say "enjoy the diversity".
If you are dead set on removing them, and they are indeed featherdusters, you should be able to find their tubes and pull them out.
I have a few in my refugium, if I had some in the DT I would think it cool.

Well that's a critter of a different color....
better post a pic so others can ID them for you.
I see you changed the thread title from "featherduster looking" to "curly q", so yeah, lets ID them

or they could be hydroids....there are some that resemble feather dusters......
I AGREE that a picture would really help

Some people control them with shrimp (Lysmata wurdemanni), certain fish, certain sea slugs.....other people use the injection of joes juice/strong kalkwasser solution/boiling hot water......others go thru extreme measures to rid them....In one of my 100g I fought them for 2 years with injections and gave up and broke down the system/boiled the rock&substrate/strealized everything - but I had a horrible case of them, and the seemed to multiply daily - injection just didn't do it, and they were killing my corals and choking everything out....
Mine were not this bad - this was another posters' tank, but they can take over - and this is the result....His were so bad - they were driving all the copepods & scud shrimp off his rock and onto the glass! Total infestation
