Im willing to spend a considerable amount of work on it... you think it really needs a professional to maintain it?

The specifics on that tank are going make it a pain to keep clean, water circulation is going to be a big problem, you can't miss a single water change. Larger tanks are far easier to maintain and the variety of livestock increases dramastically as the tank gets larger. Larger tanks initial costs may be a little shocking at first but in the long run it is worth it . Most people usually end up upgrading to a larger tank simply because many saltwater fish can not be kept in smaller tanks. I started with a 55 and through the years have setup larger and larger tanks so I could keep certain species of fish. If space is an issue there are nano tanks that will be much easier to maintain than a wall tank because there are many types of equipment designed specifically for them because they are very popular

We already bought the tank... and im not gunna lie, I like it because of how it looks. Im willing to keep simple smaller fish in it, and not too concerned about how much the proper equipment will cost. I like your suggestion "a couple of small fish such as a clown goby or firefish". What do you think is the neccessary steps to get this SW going? Of all the get started steps to buy and begin you've seen posted here, repost one that you think is best...

I honestly do not know what type of equipment would work with that tank as I am not familiar with it. If you are going to pay a company to maintain it for you they will tell you exactly what equipment you need and should set everything up for you such as adding LS and LR mixing the water and hooking up the skimmer, pumps, lighting, etc. The firm I work at had a 300 gallon setup in our lobby. We hired a local company to maintain it for us and have done everything from the initial setup, all we do is have our runner feed it.
I would love to see some picks of you setup once you get it going. Are you planning to have a fuge or sump attached?

Well ryan have u purchased filters, heaters, powerheads yet?
If u havent u might want to look at a 12 or 24 gallon aquapod. Id say the minimal size for keeping saltwater 12 that is. Their kinda expensive but provide all the equipment you need, so it evens out.

Like said before, you probably won'y be able to have a good SaltWater tank with that kind of tank... like I said, go get a good one at a pet store. You won't regret it... fish are fun!!

Get yourself a good book on saltwater fish care first. I would not even put one saltwater fish in a 9 gallon maybe freshwater fish.
I wouldnt really think a person of so much experince would be so rude! He is new here and so am I so he threw some kind of idea out there and posted here! he did try it yet and he will get help by keep reading the forum. And u didnt help him at all and i completely disagree with ur info too! People have fish in 2 and 3 gallon nanos. And i have a 5 1/2 and 10 gal fresh water with about 15 fish in them all together so u can easily get FWF in that tank!
And good luck Ryan!

I agree with most of the responses. I am just starting a saltwater tank and it is going to take a lot more work than my freshwater tanks. If you are looking for a saltwater look, I suggest some colorful afican cichlids. You can put crush coral in the bottom (helps with higher Ph) and buy several types of fish that are quite colorful. It would make a very nice tank and not near the work as a saltwater aquarium.

Ya i agree. I had an african tank before and they are the closest thing to SW with FW. They require more work then normal FW but less the SW.
