Bill, Why not a royal gramma, a firefish, and a clown. Stay away from any angels for now. Angels of all sizes do not do well in new tanks. Glad you did not get the bicolor. Im in no way bashing you but I guarantee he would not make it past 2 weeks. Let yor tank age atleast a year, get some good live rock for grazing then go for the angel. Coral beauty and flame are both good choices. Dont do a bicolor. Good luck!!!

It's never a good idea to buy a fish that needs upgrading without already having a bigger tank set up. What if things don't work out? Besides if your tank has just been set up you shouldn't really be adding a sensitive fish like tangs or angelfish. Both require a tank that is stable and mature, preferably 6 months+. I would go with a fish that is hardy such as clownfish, gramma, firefish, chromis, dottybacks, etc. Please don't start out with a hard to keep fish, it most likely won't end well for the fish. Also, do you have a QT set up?

Ive been anxiously waiting for a angel myself. Your 30 gallon should be fine for a coral beauty IMO. Youll need to wait til the tank has been cycled for about 6 months at least though.

My tank has been going for about 2.5 months now and I got a Coral Beauty about 3 weeks ago and QT him for 2 weeks then put him in the DT. The acclimation went really well since the angel displayed no stressfull symptoms at all going into the QT or DT and ate regularly and was active. He ran around my 90 fast for about 3 days in a pattern and showed he was strong. Now he just cruises around picking at algea and stuff. I expect him to start talking to me any day now

I can understand waiting a year to keep a mandarin because of food issues but angels are very hardy and should be ok as long as they are well taken care of.

You guys haven't ever heard of miniature tangs?
I have a miniature Naso in my 2.5 gallon.

I also have a miniature Great White in my 55 gallon reef. They only get like 6".
Just in case anyone doesn't get it, that was a joke.

I kinda agree here. Probably preferably more than 6 months before the tangs and bicolor angels are probably one of the least hardy of the dwarf angels. However a transfer or use of LR/sand ect from an established system changes the scenario a bit. and lets not ignore the arogance most of us get (me included) that we can keep things before we should be cause our little bit of experience gives us the magic touch
I've killed a few on that alone (a bicolor angel was the 1rst).
