smallest reef tank ?

id like a small tank for my office desk about 3 to 6 gallons. has anyone had success making a small reef tank with dsb , heater, power head, no filter no uv , no protein. is that possible/? for some small corals and inverts?
thanks for opinions.

Of course its possible... I keep a 10 gal nano tank with a filter, small thin sandbed and about 15 lbs of live rock and all my corals love it. Go to nano-reef.com and talk to some of those people about small tanks. A member (Mermaid) there has been succesfully keeping a 3/4 gallon nano reef with no filter but just a small powerhead and a bunch of live rock on a very thin sandbed.

I have a 7 gal bowfront and a 20 long in my office, but I work at home. I would recommend the 7 gal bowfront, with a 32W retrofit PC light. It is a nice little tank, but fairly expensive for the size. It comes with a nice base, and top, and would be perfect.

I agree with Kelly I too have a 7 gallon bow....I personally wouldn't go any other way if I were going to do a tank less than 10 gallons! I am running a Skilter 250 (modified to skim better) on mine and two 13 watt smart lamps...but as Kelly said the single 32 watt retro would be the better way to go....I have about 13lbs LR and 5lbs LS and Xenia coral, green star polyps and mushrooms....works very nice!!!

i've seen a .5 gallon reef. they are possible but hard on the up keep. if you stay ontop of it then you should be well off. good luck.

This is my 5 gallon bowfront with mini biowheel filter and 13w 50/50 pc. It is doing quite well and is still a young tank so it's got a ways to go as far as stocking it goes. I keep button polyps with no problem and had some yellow polyps in there that I moved to my main tank. The water quality stays very high which amazes me because I do water changes on my bigger tanks a lot more often than I do on this one.

I have a 3 gallon with 3 13watt pc's.
My LFS had one less than a gallon and it was set up for a year before they sold it.

My LFS has a beautiful .5 gallon reef setup on display. I'm planning to go there today and I will take pics to show you guys. It's really incredible.
They use one of those decorator betta bowls as the tank.
