Smell From MH Lights ???

Hi All, I have noticed since i started using my new lights, a strange almost chemical odor has developed around my tank. Has anyone had this happen?? I almost feel like it's coming from the rubber piece holding my glass tops together or it's coming from within the light housing . I have had these light for just 1 week. Thanks,

Are they retro Fitted or in an aluminum hood?

MH bulbs produce ALOT of heat,,So anything close to them that is prone to melting,, probably will...
It is usually not reccomended to have a glass cover under MH bulbs..The heat causes a number of problems.Baked on salt,excessive heat,and elevated tank temps...
I'm guessing this lid is your source..Try removing it for a couple days and see/small what happens...

Thanks, My hood is made from aluminum, and right now i can not remove my tops. I have to modify my canopy first. I actually now think it might be coming from my VHO, very hard to track down this smell

Is probably the new paint on the hood. It shouldnt hurt anything.

also smell the ballast, mine smells funky sometimes.

Try running one light than the other and see if the smell goes away.

Mine still has a faint smell when it first comes on, I would imagine it from the bulb filament heating up to operating temp.

Thanks All, Smell is from the tops from the heat. Has dimished over the last days.
