smelly water

i was mixing saltwater in a 15 gal bin and had some left over after a water change. It has been sittting with a powerhead and the lid on for about a week. I opened the lid yesterday and it smells pretty bad!
Is this normal? Should I throw it out? Is there a time frame for the water? My heater might have been keeping it around 84 degrees.

Yeah, I always rinse and use the same bin for my water.
also, I usually only mix it for 24-48 hours, but this time had some left. Does it go bad cause of the time frame? temp fluctuation? tight lid?

I used Oceanic for quite some time. I never had an issue. What kind of smell does it have? When you are done with that water just clean the container out with white vinegar. Don't lock the lid down, leave it loosely covered.

sep, I dont keep the lid on when water is not mixing. also I dont keep the lid on tight when mixing cause the powerhead and heater cords hang over the edge.
It smells like a baby fart, you know?

Hm, well my son is 13. It's been awhile
As long as it doesn't smell sulfuric, like rotten eggs, then you are good. There are times when I pull the cover off of mine and it has a weird smell. It isn't the water though, I sniff that too, it is just the smell of trapped air. I would still use the water in there, then clean the bin with white vinegar.

i mix my water for extended periods as well. usually about 12 gallons at a time and use a maxijet 1200 and a heater in the bin with it also. keep one corner propped open and Ive never had any issues with it at all. sometimes the bin does smell funky but i attribute that to it just needing a good cleaning .

I mix my water for around 24 hours before I use it. Most of the time though, I mix for a week or more until I run out.
