smoke on the live rock

hi!
can anyone tell me what the white hairlike stuff is (looks like smoke) that is all over my live rock? not on the face pieces, but if you look through the gaps, it's all over. And, it's on my heater, I just noticed. It's a 125 reef with a whole lot of rock....and red disc corals. Hamilton 2X150 MH and 2 pc's. just curious. thet tank has been running for over four years. I just added a clean up crew....
thanks

thanks....I've been reading all these threads for awile. I've gotten a lot of info off this message board.
um, it would be difficult to get pics of this "white hair" because it doesn't appear on the face rock

it has pretty much coated the inner rock surfaces.... i was wondering if increasing the powerheads would help. it almost looks like angel hair.

or if u dont want them, u could put the LEAST reef safe fish in, and watch them eat them all, that would be AWSOME!! that would be ONE FAT FISH

Does it look more like spider webs then smoke? If it's like spider webs, it's made by a worm. I have those in my tank, harmless. It catches food particles and retreives it back. You do have A LOT of mushrooms! If anything in my tank over grows like that, I will be fragging them like mad! :happyfish

i tried to thin them once a couple years ago.....but they multiplied. I think I read once that the "smoke" i'm seeing is created by worms. thanks for the input. it just had me wondering if I should be concerned LOL...... and not concerned about the billion mushrooms, right?

sure, where are you at in illinois? I live in a chicago suburb..... could possibly overnight a few to ya to see if it works. don't let them reproduce!!! LOL just kidding.....
someone told me to buy a six line wrasse that eats those worms......I have them all over all my tanks.... they say they aren't all that bad. they do get in the rock, dude...... they crawl out during feeding time....
