I would not count on the chocolate chip star to prefer algae over your snails. It is pretty opportunistic, and given the choice between algae or meat, I reckon it would go for the meat. IMO, NO starfish is suitable for algae control.
If you are having these issues with your snails:
What is your specific gravity?
How long do you acclimate them?
Have you ever run a copper test?
I believe he mentioned about not flipping them over. Certain ones can't flip themselves over and they'll die over time. I think I read in one of the thread saying turbos can flip themselves over. I have to flip mine over off and on. I didn't flip anyone over for a week, I was suprised. I was hoping they keep up the good work until the following week when 2 flipped over upside down...lol...I just flipped 2 last night, tonight they're fine....It may take them up to 3 days before they would even move when first introduced. It took a couple of them one day, then the rest about a week, I thought they were dead, but they all moved and the following week, they were on top of the glass. :happyfish
