snail without a shell?

hey everybody i just was wondering if anyone has had a snail without a shell? we noticed yesterday morning that one of our turbos didnt have his shell

. we went out of town & didnt expect to see him again when we got home, but there he is!
what would cause him to just leave his shell?

snails cannot live w/o their shells. They are physically bound to the shell and cannot purposely remove themselves. Forceful removal results in death.
Slugs and nutibranchs on the other hand do not have shells, and are part of the same family as snails. You are probably seeing some sort of nuti that hitchhiked into your tank, and if you see an empty turbo shell, its from a dead turbo, not one that shed its shell.
