What would cause a snail to leave it's shell.I found two empty shells this morning and then found one of the snails without it's shell climbing up the glass.I can't find the second one.I checked my water params and they look fine.I did see a hermit close to one of the shells,but it didn't move in.

I don't think snails have quite the lifespan that our fish friends have. Sometimes they just die, then someone else cleans up the mess. So it might not be that they are leaving their shells, just getting eaten up leaving an empty shell.

Snails don't leave their shells. But with the language it seems that you choose to use, your on the "fstlane4banning".

actually the language I used was the word for someone without clothes starts with a N and ends with a D.So I guess I'm sorry that I am so profane.and I fixed it already.

appparently you learn something everyday,because my snail is crawling around with out his shell.I will have a pic in a bit.And yes it is one of my snails and not a slug because it has the same mouth tube thing that the rest of my snails do.

I'll try to get better pics if the snail lives very long and moves to a better spot for picture taking.

Snais do not detatch from their shells and live for very long, they'd have to be ripped out. What you have must be a stomatella or slug... or your hermit ripped out poor snail. They do that sometimes. He won't live long.

Wow, that is wicked. Agree with Keri, he probably won't live long unprotected like that. Maybe place him down in the middle of a pile of empty shells, in hopes that he picks one....
