snails in refugium

i recently set up an 8 gal refugium for my 55 gal. reef.i was wondering if leaveing the lights on 24 hrs. a day would affect my snails. do they need a dark period? should i even have snails in there at all. thanxs for any help.

Why would you keep your refugium lights on 24/7? Photosynthetic organisms do better with a dark period, as I assume your snails would. Most people have had the best results running there refugium lights opposite the main tanks lights, having them come on a little while before the main tanks go out and vise versa will help to keep the pH of your tank more stable. I dont think there would be a problem as far as snails go, Im sure you want your refugium as clean as your 55 :) HTH

i have heard of a lot of people on this board say they run their refu. lights all the time. sounds like alternating them would be better. thanx for the advice.
