Snails per capita

I wanted to know how many snails I should have in my 37 gal., so I asked the guy at my LFS, he told me I should buy snails every visit. I can't believe my tank should have 40 snails in it. Is there some snails per gallon I should follow?

I was told 1 snail per 2 gallons. It has worked very well for me so far. I have done the same with the crabs....1 crab per 2 gallons.

2 per gal worked for me, i need to get 1 more though becasue one of mine was murdered by my crabs. make shure to get a variety of snails because they all do something a little different

Hate to hijack but ... if you get 1 snail per 2 gallons... how many crabs do you get and how in the world do you keep snail excrement under control!?!
