snails without shells

i turned on the light in my living room long after the tank lights went out and i see two snails on the glass doing their thing, but without shells !? in the past month ive had 3 empty shells turn up in the sandbed so i assumed they were killed by a hermit or just died. the other thing is that they are only the size of the last part of a common pinky finger. pretty small to have come out of these decent size shells. could they be babys? are they so comfy in my tank they dont need shells? are they babys that now need empty shells? here are a few of the tankmates-
Blonde Naso
Longhorn Cowfish
Diana's Hog
2 damsels. 1 large 1 small
Lawnmower Blenny
Foxface Rabbit
2 Clowns
Horseshoe crab
maybe 5 small hermits
Coral banded skrimp
2 turbo's w/ shells
and now at least 2 shell-less small snails
where could these guys have come from????

sea slug often take on shell but then will leave them if they fell no threat in the tank. so my guess would be a slug.

They are beneficial algae eaters. They usually come in on live rock. BUt I have 160 lbs of lr and not one.

Stinkin rock... sorry, personal rant there.
They are very beneficial, and when a hobbiest buys LR, thats one of many critters they hope gets hitch-hiked in.
