ok, so im kinda happy because i found a friend that has a 55 gal tank that he might want to sell. hes had a snake in it, will that be okay, and is there anything i should ask him about the tank before i get it? ive heard copper is a no-no.. .anything else?

find out what he cleans the tank with. my mom used to own a pet store and we would clean them with some pretty potent stuff

Reptiles and amphibions carry some no-no bacteria on them that can stick to the glass for a while, and is probably not too good for fish, it's not real great for humans. I would boil some water and throw it in there after leak testing.
I also agree that you should check to see what he cleans it with.

Scrub it with 10:1 solution of Bleach, rinse well and then scrub with undiluted vinegar. Don't rinse off the vinegar, just pour out the excess and let it stand.

All of my tanks had snakes in them at one time. I agree with Bang Guy on cleaning them. The only thing to check on is if it was in fact built as an aquarium and not a reptile cage. Glass reptile cages are built with thinner glass than aquariums & won't hold water.
