Skimmers are great! Just test your parameters regularly.

Skimmers have more to do with waste removal, so nitrate and phosphate is important to test when looking at skimmer efficiency.

If you have a reef tank, calcium, alkalinity and magnesium are all very important parameters to monitor.

Another thought. Searching your articles and past posts, from what I gather water changes vary from tank to tank but you personally don't do many. My thought is, since I have a lot of fish inches in my tank wondered if that would increase my need for water changes. Thanks
