Snow flake eel and a canopy

I would like to add a fish to my 150G. I currently have a porc puffer, a foxface , and a bicolor angel. I had a small clown, but as of last night he died. I have always liked eels, and the LFS by me has a snowflake eel for sale for $20. The 150G used to be a fresh water tank and I have a small opening near the rear of the canopy about 3inches long by 2 inches wide. Would a snowflake eel work in my tank? And also how could I close this opening? I've heard from this site, books and my LFS that they are excellent escape artists and I wouldn't want to come home to find my cats finishing off a snack that escaped from its tank. My daughters wanted a hawkfish or a 6 line wrasse, but I really like the eel. My tank, My choice

you could take a piece of Lexan and glue it over the hole in the canopy. They will escape from the smallest hole you missed and you could also place a weight ontop of the lid so he can push it open

I remember hearing a way to cover the holes in your tank. They said to use egg carton material (the Styrofoam/papers ones I'm guessing). Its sposed to prevent the eel from escaping while still allowing air flow in and out of the tank. They said you could buy it at your local hardware store. I think they sell it in flat sheets so maybe think about that, or not because I may be totally wrong here  .

do you mean the plastic egg-crate? that might work. you big is the eel? if its a tiny sucker you might want to try some screening material, i found some vinyl kind at home depot doesnt rust like the older stuff.

i had absolutley no problem with my eel jumping. none of the tanks he has been has had a top, except for the 120, which he jumped in the overflow, then learned his lesson and never did it again. or maybe its just my eel.

Plastic egg crate??? Not sure what that is. Do you mean like what the eggs in the market are from? I know this is a dumb question, but I want to make sure I do it right the first time. The eel at the LFS was around 8-10 inches.

The egg crate isn't from the market. It is white plastic with round holes in it. I am not sure where to get it though. If the hole is in the back, you could always just screw another small piece of wood over it. Or even an old fish net stapled tight over it.

the "egg crate" you want to use is made for use in commercial light fixtures, you can find it at home depot or any home improvement store usually in the lighting section. it comes in sheets, and looks like a white plastic grid. it can be cut to size to fit your tank openings.
