you should have looked this up before you purchased him but they grow at a decent rate if you feed them properly and they grow to about 36 inches

My SFE was 7-8 inches when I bought it in October. It eats twice per week and is now probably 16-18 inches long - its hard to tell for sure, it just won't stay still for me haha. Make sure you vary what you feed it. Krill, squid, octo, silversides. And per recommend of AW2x3, one of this sites EEL PROS, feed it until it is full (stops taking more) each time you feed it.
Make sure your lid is escape proof.
Good luck

I have two of them and they have grown substantially in the 6 weeks I have had them. I feed mine twice a day though, not over abundantly (if thats a word) though. I have found that if you dont feed them a variety, they will not eat. I try to mix their diet up every other day for best eating results. They are really great with other (bigger) fish though...really fun to watch

What is the variety you feed them?
I have only been able to find frozen krill. I am also in the Dayton area.

How big are your shrimp? I feed mine (about 8") 3-4 krill at a time.

If you are feeding twice every day, you are feeding your eel way too much. Here is something I read about something called power-feeding the other day. I know you said you are not feeding over abundantely, but I thought I would put this out there for everyone's info.
"Offering copious amounts of food at excessively frequent intervals will make the animal grow very quickly, especially if power-feeding begins when the anuimal is very young. While power-feeding does cause rampant growth in the musculature and skeleton of the moray, it cannot increase in the development rate of the internal organs and brain. The end result is a very large bodied, yet frightfully unhealthy specimen that is ultimately doomed to a short life." p89 Keeping Moray Eels in Aquariums, Phil Purser ( I dont think SWF sells books, so I hope I am allowed to include that reference )
I have found the above to be the best book I have seen about morays.
Try 2-3 times per week as much as it will eat - as recommended to me by AW2x3.

I have never heard that they grow to 36 inches. I hear as an average about 2 1/2 feet. As far as feeding I was told feed more often when it is younger, I feed every day, and as it gets older feed every 2 or 3 days.

I am going to pick up my new sfe tonight
. I was just wondering about the size of them. Everyone on this thread is saying 30" or more but in all the books i have read they say they grow 36" wild but only around 24" captive. What does everyone think about this?

I have seen one in the lfs that is about 30 inches long, so they do get pretty big. I dont how old it was or anything, but I suspect that they grow pretty rapidly.
