Snowflake Eel HELP!!

I have a 75 gallon tank and I wanted to get a snowflake eel or any kind of eel really, but I don't know what kind of fish I can put with them? I was thinking about getting a lion fish, yellow tang, a blue tang, and a clown fish. Would they all be alright with the eel? Would the eel eat the snails, hermits, and crabs? And how often would I feed him? Thanks!

I have a SFE and I love him. His tank mates are a Panther grouper, Foxface and a brown tang, with lots of snails and crabs.....he leaves them all alone.
At feeding time he will bump the other fish but never bites them.
I feed him every night silversides squid any meaty food....he is blind as a bat but he smells the food and goes after it.
Good luck, :happyfish

I think your list looks ok although some may criticize having 2 tangs in a 75 gallon. Personally I think if you restrict yourself to just the 5 listed fish, the tank would be fine. The sfe would work with the fish you listed.

i'd nix the clown... chances are he'd become dinner... you should really only house larger more aggressive fish with eels, IMO. Other than that, it sounds good to me.

It depends... a large tomato or maroon would be fine. They can hold their own with a sfe.

that's true... for some reason whenever people say clown, i always just assume a perc or false perc.... it's the finding nemo mentality i guess...

I'd probably go with the tangs first. Of the fish you listed, they are the most susceptible to stress-related disease and adding them first will assure that they will not have to go through the new fish bullying. On the other hand, if you add one of the more hardier fish first, you can assure that your tank will be ready when the tangs go in.
So change my above answer, add the sfe first and the tangs 2nd and 3rd. The sfe is very hardy and will not bully anything in your tank (unless it can eat it).

i was told to add tangs last because they're territorial, and will fight any fish introduced after them...

I disagree because a maroon clown or lionfish would be ok even if bullied a little by the tangs. Not sure the reverse is true.

You're right... the lionfish or tangs could probably go in either order. But I'd definitely add the tangs b4 a large clown.

are clowns more aggressive than tangs? i don't know because i don't have a large clown or a tang...

Their aggression depends upon the individual... there is no absolute. But a maroon or tomato clown can withstand some bullying better than most tangs. Besides, you have to look at the price if bullying does drive a fish into the grave. Tangs = more expensive.

I been thinking of getting one of these someday. Do you need a secure canopy? I worry about the eel climbing out of the tank.

oh yes, eels are very well known for being escape artists! You definately have to have a very secure top. If they can fit their head in a hole, they can get out.

For sure enclose the entire tank......I put heavy screen on the back of my canopy so if the ell jumps there is no where to get out.
I know someone who didnt do this and found the ell in the next room when they got home from work.....not alive.....
