eels will generally munch on all shrimp, from cleaner to banded to anything. it is their primary diet. so if you want one say good bye to your shrimp, on the other hand i have neer seen or heard on one eating a living hermit crab. i can be worng but i thing it is ok to have them in there with eels.

I have a sfe at least 12" who has lived over 4 months with 12 hermit crabs and never bothered them..I have never however considered putting any type of cleaner shrimp in w/ her ( because I've been warned)..but even when I try to feed her krill or tiger shrimp(from the grocer) she refuses..every fish is different though,so start w/ a couple..Good luck.

I have a 14" snowflake and alot of hermit crabs with no problems. I think the key is to feed the eel properly where it does not have to hunt for food. As long as I feed my eel regularly, the hermits are fine...or so far anyway :)

My snowflake ate a large hermit the day after I put them together. I guess it just depends on the personality of your eel.
