Snowflake Eels and Silversides

I have a shark egg and waiting on it to hatch I went and bought a block of frozen silversides. Well I got bored so I broke one off and put it by my snowflake's home and all of a sudden he cam out and grabbed the head and started doing like a death roll. The he acted like a snake and started to swallow the silverside whole!!! It is kool cause he hasn’t eaten for like 3 days and i think i have found a great alternative for live feeders. I also halfed a silverside and put it in my big tank for my Picasso trigger. He has been picking on it for a while and a little of it is gone. Is this a good food source for them????

Yes, silversides make a good addition to any predators diet. I would advise to stop feeding feeders altogether. They are not healthy, and can introduce pathogens into your tank. They can also lead to liver disease and death. My snowflake likes silversides ok. Not his favorite, but he will take them. My trigger (humu) loves them. Bo

I wouldnt strickly feed them silversides. They are a good treat... When your shark hatches feed it silversides for the first week or so because they are smelly and the shark should find it easily... then find it a better source of nutrition...IMO..

I get buy shrimp, clams, squid, and octupus from the grocery (make sure there is no perservatives in them) I also get the shark formula from my LFS. It is so awesome watching them go into a feeding frenzy!

no not at all.. I go to publix and get the seafood... I probably spend about 5 bucks a month on food there and the shark formula is about 5 bucks..

Mine stays in his burrow during the day and I have to put silversides and krill by his hole, but at night he gets out of his hole and swims around aimlessly into the sides of the tank.

AS SOON AS HE SMELLS THE SILVERS SIDES BE CAREFUL HE WILL BITE AND WHEN HE TAKES THEM FROM THE FEEDING STICK HE BITES SO HARD YOU FEEL THE POWER HE HAS I THOUGHT ONE DAY HE BROKE THE TIP OFF BUT HE LEFT MARKS ON THE FEEDING STICK

Just to add my 2 Cents, sfe have very poor sight and find their food by sense of smell and motion. If you are wondering why they "bump into" their food, its because it is following the smell and the shadow it is seeing in the water.
I made a huge mistake a few years back by putting my hand into the tank at feeding time to move a rock or something that had fallen out of place. Needless to say, I had my golden tail moray attatched to my finger for a few seconds, and it was extremely painful!! He knew there was food in the tank, saw my hand and BAM! I will never do that again!:p
