So after a year down were starting back up.

What do we suggest for a substrate for softies? Barebottom or sand? Got about 180 pounds of dead live rock to go in, but im just wondering what the "flavor of the month" substrate is :)

I like sand (and DSB, too), but there are definitely some barebottom people here.

What size tank are you going with?

Its a 120, non-drilled. Going to be using 2-250w Mh's and it will have a 55g sump. Have everything but the sump, im going to pick that up this weekend, throw some plexi-glass seperators in it and call it a day.

Very cool. I can't wait to see how it goes. Do you have a stocklist in mind? What sort of soft coral you thinking? When you have it all setup I might have some frags if you'd like them. There's a bit of a dinoflagellate issue in my frag tank, but once that's all worked out, since I'm just across the river (and I work in HBG) it would be cool to trade with someone local. There's a few of us around here, I've gotten some frags from trippkid, who's down in Lewisberry.

Wow, i didnt even notice in your sig where you were from. Im actually from down in dillsburg and just commute to harrisburg everyday for work.
Are there any local fish stores around here that have saltwater beisdes the one down in lancaster?

There's one in Mechanicsburg called Treasures From the Sea, specializing in saltwater. Their fish are good quality but they have limited selection (especially in the coral area and in dry goods) and the prices are a little higher than TFP in Lancaster. Just google the name and the first result will have their address and phone number.

A ***** also just opened on the Carlisle pike, but it's typical ***** and they only seem to have like 50 clowns shoved into a 10g tank, and 5 yellow tangs in another. Their few pieces of coral and anemones look dyed and near death.

I just sent you a PM about a 55g tank I have for sale. It would be a lot cheaper than running down to Lancaster to pick one up. Let me know.

I would suggest sand in a softies tank. The additional detritus accumulation will provide nutrients that make the softies thrive.
