so CONFUSED right now

so I did about a 25% water change 2 days ago and I checked the levels in my tank today and I just don't know what is going wrong
I know I stirred up the sand a little more than I normally do when I did the water change. BTW-- I have a 45 gallon with 2 clowns, 2 SW mollies, a serpant star and some hermits/snails. here are my readings:
Ph 8.2
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrates 30!!!!
Why did my nitrates jump up like this??? I don't have any dead fish and they all look healthy.

How does your change water look, have you tested it? If it's okay, then I would think it could be in your substrate. Substrate can trap a lot of NO3 over time. Just keep doing changes.

What kind of filtration are you using? How much live rock do you have in your 45g?
Moving a few rocks around should not cause such a drastic surge in nitrates if your filtration is adequate.
I just did some major re-aquascaping a few weeks ago and I stirred my sand up quite a bit. No ill-effects.

If all you have is fish dont worry so much about nitrates at 30. Not a killer. Just keep doing water change 25% a week and you will be fine. Your star is going to show the first sign. JMO.
