Ok, so yesterday, I went to LFS and they had fish 30% off.
I buy a tail spot blenny for $14 which I think is a great deal. They have 2 of them in their reef tank. The guy spends 1/2 hour trying to catch one of them, basically turning their tank into a sandstorm mess. He tells me he will catch one that evening once the sand settles and put him into a container for me to pick up this morning. I get there today and apparently he never caught the fish. A different guy tries for another 1/2 hour and still didn't catch one. So now they tell me they will call me when they catch one. The owner says they can't keep them in any other tank cuz they need copepods to survive. Is this true? I read on that Drs. site they are herbivores, and my fish reference book says omnivores. Also, I saw both of them eat frozen food yesterday at the store. What gives????

Sorrry, I just had to vent.

I wish SWF.com sold them. All the online sites that carry them charge an arm and a leg for shipping.

they will eat pods, but they do not need them as a main source, they will eat anything edible you put in our tank; brine, flake, pellet, algae

try telling them to scare it into a hole in a rock then take the rock out, thats how i had to catch my 3 of my dottybacks.

one word for your LFS: branch rock and sparingly. You would think stores would know how to keep fish that need to be caught and sold. If you keep a psuedochromis or basset with rock with holes you will never sell any unless the fish come with free liverock. they shouldn't have stock long enough to worry about pods (even if it were true) and they should have multiple tank connected on several systems to not to worry about one tanks supply of pods. fang blennies are the only common blennies I know of that often need pods to survive (or may not eat).

Yeah, I don't know why I go back there. I have gotten some very bad advice from them. I finally got to a point where I would still occasionally shop there, but not ask for any advice. My other local choice is a *****, so that's not great either. Now I'm thinking about calling them and asking them to credit my money back and just ordering a Midas or tail spot online. I need a conch anyways, so could do both at the same time. Sucks since that was such a great deal. But now even if they catch him he was looking stressed from being chased for so long, might not be a good idea to take him.
Any thoughts about the Midas vs. a tail spot?
