So how many fish in a 30 gallon?

I have 45lbs of lr, dsb, skilter 400. I know I can't put them in at once but how many total in the end?

Don't know the truth behind this but had read somewhere that max is 1 inch of fish per gallon of water. seems true enough - larger fish = less fish.
So say if your fish averaged 3 inches each 8 would be 24 inches of fish leaving a buffer??

Hi, it's one inch per 5 gallon.. but that is not concrete you don't want to put say a tang in there. Whatcha thinking? Maybe a clown some chromis??? goby??

Your lighting looks great - 190Watt VHO - are you doing a reef or FO ?
In a reef maybe 1 or 2, maybe 3 nice small colorful fish in a 30 gallon should be fine -as long as they remain small.

i agree with ren one inch odf fish per gallon unless you start to see parasites or your fish are getting too sick!!
Don't buy too expensive fish till ure spikes go over!

Once your tank is established you can get about 1 inch of fish per 2 gallons. No more.
With all the rock and l/s , you probably only have about 20 gallons of actual water in the tank. This means the tank s/b able to support up to a max of 10 inches of adult size fish. NOT ONE FISH WHICH REACHES 10 INCHES...tank too small for this. I would recommend a royal grammer, a flame hawk(of course) and if you wait 5-6 months after all is going well a flame or coral beauty angel angel. If you don't want to wait you can substitute the angel w/ a perc. These combo's will give you some deversity and great color. MY 2 cents. Good luck.

Gotta be careful with stocking fish in tanks, and the old inch/gallon generalities are dangerous.
Using the 1 inch of fish per 2 gallon calculation would mean:
10 gallon nano could have (5) 1" fish
55 gallon tank could have (27) 1" fish
125 gallon could have (62) 1" fish
don't think so ...
Even the 1" / 5 gallon is a little risky.
IMO - When determining the number of fish to keep in a given size tank, you should also include the following in your decision.
FO or Aggressive or Reef
Filtration
Size of fish when an adult
Mixing compatible fish
Habits and needs of each species of fish
Overstocking normaly leads to overfeeding and or disease - which leads to poorer water quality, problems, and discomfort to the fish.
