Gotta be careful with stocking fish in tanks, and the old inch/gallon generalities are dangerous.
Using the 1 inch of fish per 2 gallon calculation would mean:
10 gallon nano could have (5) 1" fish
55 gallon tank could have (27) 1" fish
125 gallon could have (62) 1" fish
don't think so ...
Even the 1" / 5 gallon is a little risky.
IMO - When determining the number of fish to keep in a given size tank, you should also include the following in your decision.
FO or Aggressive or Reef
Filtration
Size of fish when an adult
Mixing compatible fish
Habits and needs of each species of fish
Overstocking normaly leads to overfeeding and or disease - which leads to poorer water quality, problems, and discomfort to the fish.
