Looking good...once at 1.009 check your SG and pH 2x daily. Top off as needed with RODI water that is pH balanced. The pH can plummet quicly and the SG can slowly rise with normal evaporation..so you have to check regularly. Good luck

well were almost down to 1.009 im at about 1.012 started at 6:00 pm yesterday. so one more 1 gal change and should be there.
That is 24 hrs, rather than the 48 that it should be. Keep a close eye on your fish. How are they doing? Keep an eye on the ph as well. As Al said, keep some PH buffered water on hand.

Matt...Good luck. You should see improvement within 48 hours in the hyposalinity environment. Remember..3 week minimum hyposalinity once all the 'white dots' are gone. Watch the pH and the SG. Top off as necessary. Slight increases in the SG can cause the treatment to fail.

This happens with most hypos. The ich "panics" and tries very hard to attach. They drop back off within a day or two.

Will you please clarify something for me if hypo salinity attaches the ick when its in the stage when it has to fall of the fish and reproduce but are unable to do so because of the almost equal osmotic pressure with in the membrane and the out side tank water how does the lowered salinity effect the ick in its free swimming stage

Joe, My understanding is the hyposalinity/osmotic pressure gradient affects only the Tomonts(encysting reproductive stage off the fish) and not necessarily the other stages.

I was looking for a clip to post, but I cannot find it. I am not 100% certain why this tends to happen. Many, MANY, people report it and it has happened to my fish as well. It is more likely to occur when hypo is done in the display rather than in a quarantine tank. I am going by what people report happening in their tanks. As far as scientific data on this. I do not have it.

Check them again, very thoroughly, tomorrow. If you still do not see any spots then you can begin the count.
