So I sold my computer...

...to pay the bills. If there's a recession, I'm definitely in the midst of it. I've been without a job now for 2 months. I've applied at Home Depot, The Apple Store, and Costco... still trying to get one.
Without a computer, I feel like I'm in the stone age, or homeless. I'm typing on my wife's computer, which is far inferior to my ex-machine, and it sucks! I think if things turn out well, we'll both get new computers for xmas.
Anyone else feel like their computer is at the heart of everything they do?

IM very sorry about that, BUT you are still very young and have your whole life in front of you! The first thing I do when I wake up is turn my computer on and the last thing I do at the end of the day is turn it off.. It is my blood because I work from it as well..

I am in the software business, I just cannot fathom going without a computer for a few hours, let alone not having one. Sorry to hear your down on your luck.

Howdy Neighbor, I live in Pleasanton about 10 miles from you. I know that the fish store in Dublin is looking for people to hire (in the Target shopping cemter). I doubt it pays more than minimum wage but it would help until you could find something better! The owners name is Ken.

I've been wondering where you were.
A few years ago I decided to get a second job. I picked up the phone book and started making calls. I landed a job working in a rehab center for adolescents. It was very rewarding and something I had never considered before making the phone call. I had no experience whatsoever, but I fit the personality profile they were looking for. Try the phone book. It worked for me.

Yikes... That must of hurt, I know the resale on most computers is terrible. My $2200 laptop wasn't worth having a new motherboard installed year and a half later (cheaper to buy an already updated used one)....

California is pretty screwed up. My sister works for a school district in OC and this district is millions in the red and had to lay off non essential employees. From the sounds of it that is happening all over Kaliforniya. GET OUT NOW BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE

Good Luck with the job search Nick.
I'd be lost with no computer.

My job involves working on the computer all day long. Then I come home and get on the boards for the rest of the evening. It's relaxing. My wife (Jeanheckle) sits across the room on her laptop - also on the boards.
I read her posts. She reads mine...and we both laugh!
last week our wireless server went out. My wife was going crazy without the internet and SWF.com. I had to run to Best Buy at 9 at night to get another server and get her back on line!
I think she was actually going through withdrawals!

Just a couple of decades ago, I could never have imagined how large a part computers would play in our lives!
Nick - hope you find work soon!

I'm a programmer so I need my computer for just about everything. I can get the project white paper and charts and stuff done on paper, but to actually do what I get paid for, I need my computers.

Good luck with the job search-you will find one No doubt.
yeah, I can't imagine going without mine-used it to make a resume, apply for a couple of jobs, and communicating with my new boss before he hired me last month. And then there's SWF.com, on here everyday and night.
I grew up in a day when a PC was not even a pipe dream yet, when people rented their telephones from the phone company and you had to call the operator to make long distance call (yeah, I'm that old!) but my computer is a central part of my life and is an essential, not a luxury.

I have my iphone too. It does a pretty good job of keeping me up-to-date on swf, but I have to be honest, after about a week, I'm partially thankful I've been without a computer... I'm a lot more productive. I even cleaned out the garage on Saturday!

Think of the possibilities that would open up if you killed your TV, too.

Dude, there have been a few times where the bill wasn't paid and the cable got cut off. The outcome were some of the best times in my life. Seriously.
