How can a fish jump thru egg create. My new jawfish was in qt. Just got it yesterday. I just found it next to the tank. I had egg create covering the top
It was sooo cute.

I have heard others say that their fish jumped through egg crate. I have a glass lid on my tank and my diamond goby must have jumped through the 2" gap in the back.
It sucks too because they are such cool fish.

Just saw last night my Neon Goby swimming in the second chamber in the back of my BC 29. Would be easy to get him out except he is small enough to fit through the openings in the the false bottom grate. This is gonna havta be a weekend hunt methinks!

Very sorry to hear that ~ me, I stick with the glass lids, solid cover front to back. I'd rather deal with heat issues than keep loosing fish and invertes cause they get through the egg crate.

I had the same situation happen about a month back with a new flasher wrasse. Not fun. Frustrating, mostly

I lost a pearly jawfish that same way
he was bolting to the top trying to get out.. it was weird...so I covered the tank with eggcrate and the next morning he was crispy on the floor!

I kinda wish i had just put it in my 54 gal. It would have been the only fish in there, with plenty of hiding. My QT is a 10 gal.

When I first posted, I was searching for lids........didn't realize I was dredging up an old thread.
oops
I'm sorry to hear about your fish. I was just wondering what people use for lids... I'm using the egg crate. Can't use the glass as I have a protein skimmer and another filter that I have set up as sort of a fuge.
The other morning, I heard something and looked at my tank. My sleeper had jumped into my protein skimmer (his name is Geronimo but I was tempted to change it to Augustus Gloop---you know from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory! )
Yes, I'm twisted enough to take a couple of photos before I tore everything apart to free him.

roflmao.. I can only imagine what the fish was thinking... "Like this? Like this? I'm gonna die in a protein skimmer? I didn't even get to jump out yet!"

I have a 29g biocube that between the display and the back chambers I bought some black needlepoint plastic. I poked 3 holes small enough to fit a zip tie through and 2 pieces of the black needlepoint plastic to fit the length of the aquarium.
The needlepoint plastic is about the size of a sheet of paper and the hole spaces come in a few different sizes- I think I got the second to smallest size. I bought it a Michael's and it is only like 29 cents a sheet.
Of course, I have had no real tests as I only have a neon goby and skunk shrimp in at the moment.

It's better than putting a fish in your tank never to be seen again....I put a twin spot goby in my 75 about a month ago, acclimated well and everything, I haven't seen a sign of him since he first went in

For my jumping fish problem I attached screen door mesh along the back of my canopy and taped it down to the back side of the tank. if i need to run cords through it its just a small slit. it ahs worked well so far and my firefish love to jump
