So the powers been out since last night...how much time do I have?

Bad part is I could power up the tank if I were home via dc/ac converter but I stalled out my ride coming home from work and am stuck up in a hotel until the rain dies down and my wife feels like coming to get me (or I feel like walking back to the car and seeing if I can get it started. not likely now that I've spent $140 on a not that great hotel but with excellent wireless internet service
and a tropical storm is still passing by) Only actual fish in the system is a hippo tang but he/she is suppose to be the centerpiece of my new 120g set up and quite frankly I've been bending over backwards to keep it healthy in my 30g until the new tank is ready. After a few rocky initial months it finally just got to the point were I didn't have to worry about its health anymore. I bought it at only 1" and its just big enough now where it doesn't look like a baby tang and grew some balls when it comes to feeding and people approaching the tank. I also have corals as well (mushrooms, xenia, brain, hammer, button polyps) and a fire shrimp I've had for 2yrs. Even if the power comes back on it does me no good until I can get home and restart the syphon. I'm not really worried just yet, its lost power overnight before while I was at work but this time I dont how long it will be before i can get home. Could be tommorow. Have many flooded roads where I'm at (norfolk, va). Bad part is its only 30 miles away. If all goes wrong 30 gallon set up complete for sale (stand, lights, sump everything)

Oh and the car, its not hydrolocked (not yet but one day my luck will run out. if you've ever done it you'll know it). it ran, sputtered and spit out white smoke from the exhaust like it does the two or three times a year this happens to me. I actually made it well past the water which wasn't even terribly deep and well below my intake. Its not going to start until what water left in the MAF and intake tract dries up. Damn what I risk for for 3 extra horsepower
anyway rain is suppose to stop by the afternoon.

Go to a local tackle shop or maybe the fishing section in walmart and you can get battery operated bait bubblers. They are not as good as a generator but a hack of a lot cheaper. Most are set up for 5-10 gallon buckets and I would recomend 5-6 for 120 gallons at least.

the 120 is not ready yet. he has the small hippo in a 30gal. my electricity went out for 6 hours and all i had was a coleman inflatable boat pump and some air tubing....worked for me. the fish should be ok...i mean they do ship fish overnight right.

yeah thats true, I guess I should at least have 48hrs. it stopped raining so I think I'm going to hike over to the car and see what I can do with it. Once I am able to get home it wont be a problem. I am able to power the whole tank system and TV surround sytem with dc/ac converter. I just have to run a cord out to the garage and periodically run the car.

I tried, it went something like this:
getting her to go in the garage on a high shelf, identify and pull down the converter in itself would be a miracle. getting her to put it on her car (or the spare car battery in the garage) would be beyond a miracle and having her run a cord from there to the house and plug the tank up would take a vision from God himself. Since the house didn't have any power I thought to myself what would motivate her most to do any of the above. So I call and say "If you need to charge the cellphone I have a converter in the garage you can use for power you just have to hook it up to your car battery". So as I get to explaining details of what to do I was cut off with "I cant do all that". To make a long story short we dont have power yet but my wife has a phone software update and a new car charger to go along with it so I guess verizon wireless has power

Oh she's on the way here since we still dont have power @ home so I probably wont get home before tommorow.

my wife would have said the same thing. then the power going out and me not having a generator would have been my fault. :notsure:

 persuading her with a trip to the day spa though might work in a pinch

everything was alive although the hammer was expanded and not moving. looked like the matrix. when I got home I set up some power to the tank and tv

brain swelled up big time. back to normal now

appearently there was stuff to be skimmed after two days

and the backyard. not too bad just alot of small and medium tree limbs down. wife said it looked like a pool while it was sitll raining

I'm pretty sure the car spun a rod bearing but she made it home and back to work again. She has a142K miles but I see a new used longblock in her future.

If you haven't, just be careful, because I heard that parasites can breed in a protien skimmer cup when it is not operating. Wash it out before you turn it back on.
