So, what are the rules?

There have been some recent posts about vodka dosing. I thought the first would be forgotten, as some ugliness broke out, and that the SWF community would move on to a discussion of the process, and its merits, or lack there of. When the second post hit the forum, I posted a link to another site that, as far as I can tell, publishes information, and sells nothing. Suprisingly, that link was deleted by a mod that did not identify him/herself.
I would apperciate it if that mod could tell me the reasoning behind that decision. It is amazing to me that, I can say, "type xyz into google" but I can't just include a link to the info, especially when the other site doesn't compete with SWF. Please explain. I would like especially like for the mod in question to identify themselves, so that we can finish this discussion privately.

you are not allowed to post any links to any site that sells the same goods as SWF... its that simple... not even a link to the site that you bid on stuff... follow it, live it, love it!!!

I Would Really Appreciate It If People Could Read A Post Before Responding To It. The Link I Posted, As I Just Stated, Does Not Sell Anything. It Provides Information. As Swf Does Not Sell Subscriptions To Said Site, There Is No Conflict; Unless, Of Course, Swf Is Attempting To Corner The Market On Knowledge.

Actually, that link was to an online magazine which also has forums. Links to other forums are not allowed either.

Thank you. While I consider this asinine, if it is indeed a rule, I will comply.

it sells a magazine... and there are more than likely products in there that is competing with SWF... there is no "cornering the market"... just keeping their site free and clean of competitors... perhpas someone should read the user agreement before signing up...

Rules that are applied with a broad brush, with no room for intrepretation, are foolhardy. Like when a child's asthma inhaler is restricted because of a zero-tolerance drug law. http://www.reason.com/news/show/28377.htmlThe link I posted was to an article. An article that had all of the information that the OP of the vodka dosing question was looking for. Sepulation has explained that, according to the letter of the law on SWF, what I did was wrong because the other site has forums, and I've stated that I will abide by this rule, now that I've been reminded about it. You, ruaround, are still parroting the "they sell a magazine" line, without bothering to understand the point I'm trying to make.
I, somehow, assumed that the paramount purpose of this forum was to facilitate the sharing of information. I just can't help but feel like I've walked into a public library, and found out that they only lend books from one specific publisher, as books from others would create some conflict of interest.

As you have stated you will abide by the rules of the forum, however the easiest way to help others with information from other sites is to do a copy and paste and note that it is a quote and not your own words. A little more work I agree but still gets the info to the people we want to help. Does make it a bit harder but I do see their (SWF) desire not to have their own commercial site advertising for others.
No big deal just gotta be aware of and sensitive to it I guess. Glad to have you on board though nitschke65 I believe your input will be most helpful to all of us. Thank you for joining.

Hi,
nitschke65, after the fight that broke out on the post about vodka dosing... I can't help but chuckle concerning being told to copy - paste
Just be sure to let everybody know if you do

and not your own words."

no my friend YOU are missing the point... this is a privately owned forum and can be run however the owner sees fit... if he doesnt want links then so be it... there is no "broad brush" on the link rule...
how does stateing something one time equal parroting??? is this your feable attempt to make yourself feel good when you obviously broke a rule???

This site is privately owned. The owner has certain rules that he would like followed. They are not difficult to abide by. Don't post links to competitors sites, other forums, or organizations that are in the market to sell or distribute anything aquarium related. Other rules are no selling or trading, no cursing, no insulting other members, and keep subject matter appropriate for a family board. It isn't that we want to corner the market on knowledge. Feel free to share your experiences, knowledge that you have acquired, and any other aquatic information that you would like to share. Don't post links. Why would any business owner allow people to advertise for other stores in their own? This is a discussion that we have had many times with people who wish to argue about the rules. The rules stand as they are. If you have further questions about the rules then feel free to PM one of us.
