sorry if this has already been discussed a thousand times, but i'm curious what people do for lighting as far as the k/color? i currently have a 150w 10k and i really don't like the "white" look...i'm thinking about jumping to a 20k to get more of a blue/"ocean feel"...thoughts?

I just switched out my 250w MH from 10k to 14k Phoenix bulbs. I am really happy with it. I have 2 54w T5 ATI blue + bulbs running also and it creates a nice soft white/blue. I can't wait to see what the tank looks like after the bulbs burn in

I run the phoenix bulbs in my 24g and it rox it well so I 1+ the 14k. I have tried Radium 20k and they were poor IMO (life was only 8 months and it blew up on me.... threw in a phoenix and its doing well).

As far as T5's, Korallen Zucht bulbs eat ATI for breakfast...
For the OP's question, I think 20k's tend to overdue it. Unless you're diving in 50+ feet of water, it's really not that blue.

TOO BLUE....it looks like the actinic lighting without MHs. Keep in mind 10K is best for growing coral, as you go higher in the K/color the less the growth. 12K is pretty blue 20K is super overkill blue. How do I know that???
At $70.00 a bulb...12K MHs.....This is my tank until I change them out...

My Blue hippo tang looks awesome, but not my clowns or my lemonpeel angel. The 12K shows off the blue fish and coral but my red sea fan looked rust colored.
