Will I be able to keep a Sohal Tang in a 55 gallon tank? I really love the look of this fish and it would be great to have one. SWF says a minimum of 125 gallons, why couldn't I keep one?
no, no,no no no and no. you couldn't comfortably fit a sohal tang in a 55. SWF.com says minimum tank size 125 cause the fish likes to swim. So once again NO!
man you just got so owned by the tang police, and there's more to come. They're right though, no matter how tempting it may be to buy the fish it really isn't a good idea . . . there not making this stuff up.
i also agree thet a 125 is to small, but not for a juvi. but in no time it will outgrow the tank. I'd probably say that you'd need more then a 6 foot tank to properly accomidate such a large species of tang, which loves to swim.
Yeah, i'm pretty conservative when it comes to tanks and the size they should be in but a 55 is way to small. I'd say go with a yellow or Kole in a 55gal. IMO 180 min is fair for these beast in their adult form.
I don't want to pile on but...
Yes, a 55 is definitely too small. Not only will the fish be very very unhappy in a 55, it would almost certainly kill anything else you tried to put with it.
wow somebody actually listened to the tang police. im impressed. they usually say "well im going to upgrade in a year" or "ill give it away when it gets big" or something equally lame. nice.

AWWW i saw one today in lfs and it was in a 100 gallon tank and i can't lie it was running things. Just to think, i wanted to order one for my 55gl. oh well, what about a Chevron for a 55?
Chevrons can get 11", a 55 gal is only 12" wide. Just food for thought.
My vote goes for a Kole Tang is a 55. Great fish, only gets 7", its very active in grazing, nice pattern and colors.
Great that you are asking prior to purchase...all too often the fish is added then the questions come. I agree the sohal would quickly out grow a 55...they definitely need much more room. The kole is a great option for smaller systems...I know of three locally that are doing great...one is in a 58 Oceanic...another is in a 220 reef display...and mine is currently adjusting to life in a 100 display. Plus I have a regal that will soon be transfered to the 100...
Do kole tangs look better as they mature? I'm not feeling that picture on this web site.
Also are Singapore Angels night eaters? Mine is not eating from what i can see. I tried Brine Shrimp, and seaweed select algae (green) my next option is live shrimp if that doesn't work, any suggestions?

I don't think either of those comments are lame, but I guess that is "your" opinion.
Maybe he could add some plant life....
