What creates more jobs, a guy sitting at a desk writing software code that will be sent to Singapore, burnt on a CD, packaged and shipped back to the US to sell for 159.00 or a guy sitting at a desk designing a 22 riffle that will require wood grown, harvested and milled in the US and Steel mined, milled and machined in the US that will sell for 159.00?

It's the loss of labor intensive jobs that is killing us. When we were exploiting our natural resources to build value added products we were the envy of the world.
Let us take that nice 22. We hire a machinist to make the parts, a cnc machine for them to use. We hire a woodworker and a assembly person. Now including the inventor we have 4 emplyees.
Now.....
Add a compliance officer... Thank Sarbaines-Oxley
Add another person to document where the wood came from. See the recent raid on Gibson guitars
Add at least one lawyer.. God forbid someone shoot themselves accidently with your gun
Oh, add another lawyer in case someone shoots someone else
Probably need another lawyer to keep up on NFA/ATF regs and paperwork.
Fill out the environmental impact paperwork, or hire someone to do it.
Hire an accountant to try to keep track of your taxes, and tax laws
Hope your building does not have a septic tank... More paperwork and costs
