Some helpful mods for newbies!!!!

Alright, i have two easy mods (modifications) one can use when first starting off this hobby. i too was once a newbie at some point, and these mods would of helped me along the way. i have been in this hobby for about 5 years now or so, and i just recently stumbled upon these, and they helped out now. These particular mods aren't fully intended for newbies. Veterans can use them also....
Enough already rite, ok 1st mod is of a maxi jet powerhead. this can be done with any model of maxi jet, except the tiny box styled one. This mod will increase the gph of the powerhead without moding the housing or impelar. 2nd is for any one that buys live brine shrimp in the little plastic container with a lid. i cut the center of the lid out. I then take a cheap filter sock and cut a cirle out of it and place this under the lid. this way i can store frags in there.

maxi jet mod.
1st pic is of a maxi jet 1200.
2nd pic is of the housing that protects the impelar (inlet & outlet)
3rd pic is of the outlet part of the powerhead cut off pritty low. i cut it down to about where it starts to get wide.
4th pic is of the housing after being cut.
5th pic is a shot just for you to see wut it looks like.

after sawing of the outlet of the housing, i then take a

[hr]
gun and attach a drill bit. I drill small holes, usually 5, around the inlet. pics will help to understand that. if you face the housing like a clock, the oulet will point at 12 o'clock, my first hole goes at 6 oclock, then one at 4oclock, 8oclock, 10oclock, 2 oclock. these extra holes will allow more water to enter the power head, and with moding the outlet the extra water will be dispersed more widely. and for the pic

this is a good mod for the newbies cause they can save alittle money, and get a good easy mod out of it. all thats needed is a saw, drill, and a maxi jet....
as far as for the vets, i did this mod to my fresh water bucket. i use a 20g garbage can to store my fresh water. and this mods make the water move alittle faster. works good!
this mod is not just for maxi jets though, this can be done with any powerhead that this type of housing. i have 4 different makers of powerheads with this same mod...

Now for the brine shrimp cup. this is a very good thing for frags. not also does it act like protection like a house. it gives them time to recover or attach. with shrooms add some sand for them to attach too, which in return acts like a base to glue the frags. if zoa's or something else add rubble rock.....these are great, easy, cheap, great....

again cut the center of the lid out, cut a circle out of a cheap filter sock, place lid on top of filter sock and walla.

i did not think of these, i merelly seen them and copied it to my use, but after several weeks, i thought of sharing these great ideas. Hopefully these help some one along the way, i think they are great ideas in this hobby and only intend to share good info.....

Thanks, I was alwasy wondering what people were talking about when they were making modifications to there powerheads.

Since it is on this subject I have a question about a "mod" On the front of the korolia powerheads they have the deflector that is supposed to aim the water, I noticed if i take mine off I get alot better flow. Is this ok to do. I know its not going to affect the power head mechanically at all, i was thinking more like a fish or snail going inside there and getting blended up.

honestly i have koralia's and i have no clue wut you mean. i even got up and looked at the power head. still lost
