I have some info. to all the newbies of saltwater aquariums,and I'm one,but I know alot.Here are 5 things-to-do-and-not-to-do.
Do
1.Before you ever even buy a tank research,research,research.-It will help alot by giving you knowledge.
Don't
2.Don't be presuaded by the people who work at the fish store ask others who know about saltwater tanks.-You'll save money and also learn some info.
Don't
3.Don't burn($) your pockets trying to get all of the best stuff, just wait and get everything one at a time,or two!-YOU'LL SAVE $$$
Don't
4.Don't add any expensive fish,hard-to-keep fish,or fish that have specific needs until your tank is cycled or is well established(ex.2-6 mths.)-Save $$$,save fish
5.Do
Take care of your tank and make sure your fish are happy-Your fish will love you,so will your tank.
*All of these things are based on my point of veiw, others may think different so please don't leave replies against this topic.

That is great info, I wish I would have read it before I started in all this. A few things to add to your list that I have started doing and am noticing my fish doing great. Add 2 drops of garlic extreme to their food or soak their food in some garlic, this will help prevent ich and other parasites (I think) also buy some selcon or zoecon and put a few drops on their food (this is basically a multi vitamin)...oh and don't let your tank temp take a drastic drop especially if you have tangs (they are very suseptable to ich and this is how mine got a few spots of it).
