After watching these mantis videos, I want to buy one and put it in a 12 gallon acrylic aquarium and feed it damsels. I've seen them for sale at the lfs.

I love them too, i want to get one around thanksgiving. By the way vanos, most mantises that are good for aquariums dont eat damsels, they eat snails. That is the famous popping noise. Fishieness, from what I have read, the easies types to keep, are: N. Wennare, Peackock mantis (DONT DO THIS THO, THEY ARE NOTORIOUS FOR SHATTERING TANK GLASS!), And a couple pothers, at the bottom of my post is a link to a website that is really useful. As to feeding them, I know that you can feed them mysis through a straw, but to keep themselves truly healthy, stock the tank that they are in with a boatload of snails, to begin, they need to eat 1 med size snail like every 2-3 days i think. Umm even a 5 gal is big enough for the small species. The spearer mantises, which eat fish, are much harder to keep, as they are EXTREMELY particular about their homes, and they are a great danger to us as humans, because when we need to reaarrange he rockwork, they can spoear your hand. For more info, contact Density Man at reef central, here is that website.
