Some weird happenings in my tank.

As some of you know I have been having problems with my snails. They are alive, but are not very active at all (and it's not a night time thing either...I stayed up till 4 am to watch)
OK.all water params are fine.Today I get home from work, and see a mexican turbo is upside down,so I get my lil stick thing, and place it in the water, the second I touch him to roll him over,a small little thing shoots out from inside the shell and scurries behind the LR.It was about 1/4" (or a lil smaller) in length, and even smaller in diameter. And fast!
The snail still seems fine, but as I said, all of my snails have not been very active for at least 5 weeks....but still alive. If I touch them they pul back intot he shell quick.
What could this little weird thing be?And is it actually eating my snails??

I saw it for about 1 second. It looked like a small light grayish colored thing.Wouls a sand scooter be in a living snail shell?

Update.U saw a few more, this time one ran into the glass,so I got a better look. But once again,he came out from a snail shell. It is not a sand scooter, looks like an ant kinda.I looked at the hitchhiker thread but saw nothing that resembles it.Any more thoughts folks???

I was looking last night until 2 am,and lemme tell ya...once the lights go out, there is some wild stuff going on in the tank.
The snail opens up and seems to actually let these little things in,3 or 4 of them at a time. When spooked they take off,and the snail closes up shop.
They do look a little like one of the amphipods on the hitchhiker thread, but seem to have small little feelers/tentacles.
